Contemporary Rituals. Contemporary Utensils.
Benaki Museum

Participated in the exhibition entitled «Contemporary rituals, contemporary utensils …» at the Benaki Museum (European Night of Museums: The Museum “Out of the Box” 2013).
“Fair Share” is a jug with an integrated measurer in order to serve a small glass of 25 ml (shot). It plays the leading role in the “tsipouro ritual”.
“Fair Share” works in the logic of the Pythagorean “Fair cup”. A trick invented by Pythagoras tried to create a discreet message and some sort of magic behind this object. “Fair cup” was invented by Pythagoras in an effort to teach his students that:
When someone exceeds the limit (hubris), they not only lose what is beyond the limit, but everything they have acquired (nemesis).
The user makes the same moves they would do with any other jug, but the “Fair Share” jug serves in a different period of time than the usual ones. There is an indication for the user to understand when to proceed to the next move.
