Yiayia reinterprets traditional Cretan embroidery through contemporary digital fabrication, transforming cultural memory into a sculptural and wearable object.
Developed through precision 3D printing and modular construction, the collection explores movement, transformation and interaction. Each element folds and reconfigures through a system of articulated panels and flexible connections, allowing the object to shift between multiple spatial compositions.
Rather than functioning solely as an accessory, Yiayia operates as a hybrid object positioned between fashion, collectible design and wearable architecture. The project investigates how heritage motifs can evolve into contemporary forms while preserving emotional and cultural continuity.
The collection received the Bronze A’ Design Award 2025–2026 in the Fashion and Travel Accessories Design category.
The collection consists of transformable modular elements designed to adapt through folding movements and interchangeable configurations. Inspired by handcrafted embroidery patterns inherited through family tradition, the project combines contemporary aesthetics with digitally fabricated precision.
Flexible materials and articulated joints allow the structures to maintain both durability and fluid movement, encouraging tactile interaction and spatial experimentation. The design process focused on balancing structural clarity, portability and expressive form.
Produced through additive manufacturing techniques, Yiayia reflects 3D Season’s ongoing exploration of collectible objects, wearable systems and contemporary Greek design through emerging technologies.
