A Few Words About the Designer

Greek product designer Sophia Lampropoulou, founder of 3D Season, was recently featured on the international design platform Muse.World following recognition at the London Design Awards.

The article titled “Where Heritage Meets 3D Printing: The Work of Sophia Lampropoulou” highlights Lampropoulou’s design approach, which combines digital fabrication, cultural narratives and contemporary product design.

Through the work of 3D Season, Lampropoulou explores how 3D printing technologies can reinterpret traditional forms, memories and cultural references into modern wearable and product design.

This international publication presents selected projects that bridge heritage and digital manufacturing, reflecting an ongoing research process around materials, structure and storytelling through design.

The year came to a strong close for our own Sophia Lampropoulou, AKTO Alumni of the BA (Hons) Product Design program, as she received two Silver Awards at the London Design Awards 2025. Her distinctions are presented below:

Honey Be

The Honey Be jewelry collection reinterprets the traditional brooch through modular design and digital fabrication, drawing inspiration from bees, honeycomb geometry, and the androgynous aesthetic of Coco Chanel. Digitally designed and produced through 3D printing, the collection transforms natural and historical motifs into contemporary jewelry pieces.

The collection includes earrings, rings, a bracelet, and a necklace. The use of PLA and TPU materials provides lightness, durability, and flexibility. The jewelry pieces open, close, and adapt easily to the body without complex mechanisms, while folding flat for easy transport. Honey Be combines cultural reference with digital innovation, proposing a contemporary approach to jewelry design.

Yiayia

The Yiayia project is a transformable handbag, designed to adapt to different carrying styles and visual expressions, reinterpreting traditional weaving through digital design and 3D printing. The inspiration behind the project comes from an authentic Cretan embroidery created by the designer’s grandmother, which formed the conceptual and visual foundation of the design.

The digitized embroidery pattern is transformed into a modular TPU surface, which folds and reshapes into four different configurations through metal rings. The pattern functions structurally rather than decoratively, defining flexibility, load distribution, and the bag’s usability. Yiayia combines tradition, technology, and adaptability, proposing a flexible object that integrates intangible cultural heritage into contemporary lifestyle, transforming it into functional, wearable design.

A Few Words About the Designer

Sophia Lampropoulou is an Athens-based product designer and founder of 3D Season, a contemporary design studio and brand. Her practice focuses on the dialogue between digital technology and craftsmanship, exploring how the precision of 3D printing can coexist with the warmth and materiality of physical, handcrafted media.

Having studied at AKTO – BA (Hons) Product Design, as well as Computer Science & Telecommunications, her work combines technical knowledge, material research, and emotional storytelling. She is particularly interested in material behavior, tactile qualities, and the subtle functional gestures that define the relationship between an object, the body, and everyday life.

Her work has been presented and awarded both in Greece and internationally. Through exhibitions, collaborations, and object collections, she seeks to create design proposals that balance clarity, functionality, and poetic presence.

The joy and emotion we feel each time we learn about the achievements of AKTO Alumni are difficult to put into words. We are especially proud of Sofia and her brand 3D Season, and we wish her continued success in every step of her journey.
